Becoming a licensed massage therapist in Florida requires a combination of education and training, as well as passing a certification exam. Here is an overview of the steps involved in becoming a licensed massage therapist:
- Education and training: In order to become a licensed massage therapist, you will need to complete an accredited massage therapy program. These programs typically last anywhere from several months to a year, and they may be offered at community colleges, vocational schools, or massage therapy schools. - Certification exam: Once you have completed your education and training, you will need to pass a certification exam in order to become a licensed massage therapist. The specific requirements for the certification exam vary by state, but most states require the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx), which is administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). The MBLEx is a computer-based exam that consists of multiple-choice questions and covers topics such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, and ethics.

Here in Florida, our massage therapists are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years.
